laundry sorting

Once upon a time, when I had only three little boys, a very good friend, who just happened to have three little girls asked me FOR A QUICK TIP TO SORTING KID'S UNDERWEAR. You see, since the kids were close in age and size, sorting laundry was a huge job. Here is the list of ideas I've used over the years: 1) buying different companies of underwear. (Usually the brand is clearly visible on the waistband. ) 2) having different color schemes. 3)buying  boxers for some and  briefs for the others (talking of boys obviously). Additional benefit of these methods, is that kids could find their underwear themselves - surely you could use the help. Another huge time gobbler is the sock matching chore. I used to have "white sock only" policy when the kids were really young. That lasted a while, that is till they started walking and keeping the whites white became more of a trouble. A great idea I've heard from a mother of 22! was to put a dot of puffy paint on each new...

bye-bye warts

Funnily enough, another wonderful remedy I've found belongs to the plantego family as well. To start from the beginning, it was of course one of my kids who forced me on the road towards this discovery.  Doing reading homework with the first grader, I've noticed a small bump on his pointer. As days went on, a few more bumps( or pimples, as I thought) appeared on his hands. Weirded at the sight I turned to my husband, who nonchalantly clued me in - I was seeing warts. Apparently, " this was common, and over-the-counter treatable". Well, not so fast and easy. Neither OTC, nor prescription medications would faze those little stubborn guys. Google is definately my friend in these situations. And that is how I discovered the wonderful "banana peel method" for getting rid of resolute warts. Simply attach a piece of banana peel, the white /inner side on the wart, for the duration of the night. The warts turn dark brown and fall off after a week or two, depend...

plantago

My six year old will gladly tell you of one hot sunny summer afternoon, when we found ourselves fruitlessly searching for hydrogen peroxide in all the cabinets. Next step in our quest, was a quick dash to our usually accommodating neighbor. Surprisingly (or not), her itinerary did not include waiting for, yet another, neighborly SOS signal. As little hands and knees continued to bleed and throb, my brain turned on the "turbo" mode and presto - the "plantago secret" was rediscovered. When I was a kid, we used those pesky weeds for all kinds of bleeding accidents, I remembered. Without further ado I grabbed, washed and applied...a couple of those green leaves to her "booboos". To my 21century, stone-jungle raised kid, those manipulations seemed almost voodooish . Boy, was she surprised when the bleeding stopped soon after, and she even lived to tell the tale.
